IFG Monthly Meeting Report 11 12 16
We began proceedings with a review of Grant Salisbury’s time spent in the Middle East and Israel, especially his time spent serving with Sar- El, The National Project for Volunteers for Israel under the direction of the Israeli Logistics Corps. A most interesting powerpoint type display brought even more life to a most interesting and practical way to visit the land and make a contribution, in Grant’s case with a bit of Goat herding thrown in for good measure.
MICHAEL from JERUSALEM
Michael is a Kiwi who was born in Israel & grew up in the Land. In 1997 he was the first in his family to be drafted into the IDF. For 3 years he served in a Combat Unit – Givati. He is still called up to reserve duty once a year. Michael & his wife Rachel & their 18 month old son Gabriel live in Jerusalem. Michael & Rachel are on the staff of CPM Israel. They are also part of a local community Prayer House.
Michael gave us good insights into the problems of raising children in Israel and especially the difficulties they and their teenaged comrades faced in their time of service in the IDF. His work with those preparing for combat and facing the traumas associated after it gave us some deep insights which will be valuable in our own life applications.
